A continuación, os presento la experiencia de Alberto Barberá en tierras americanas al realizar Programa Internacional en New Brunswick (En el estado de New Jersey, con frontera del de Nueva York). Tenéis su experiencia tanto en inglés como en castellano:GOING ABROAD.
My dear lector and future exchange. First of all: I wouldn’t change the experience I got in America for all the gold in the California Rivers. You have to go to study abroad, if you do so you are going to be in another different world. The people, the food, the way of saying things, the way of working, the values… everything is different. You will experience a very unique way of behaving and approaching life… and you have to know that there is no better option than travelling and studying.
I am going to talk to you about my experience in New Brunswick (USA). This is a small town in which you can find everything: shops, cafés, pubs, restaurants, movie theaters… I was staying in a residence in campus, and I had my classes in different parts of town… you may think that is a nuisance, but nothing farther from the truth, because the campus buses can take you from one part of the town to another is just a blink. The best part was that I was close to New York City. I went there every weekend. Personally, I like big cities and I love New York.
Another great thing about America Universities is that you can breathe “American Campus Spirit” everywhere you go. Oh my dear lector, I tell you it is really nice to walk through the green gardens and have classes in those beautiful old buildings. If you don’t believe me… take a look at some pictures¡ Maybe you are worried about the classes. In that respect I have to tell you that the classes were great¡ easy, very practical and useful. It is not about memorizing, it is about understanding. It is not difficult to get good marks whether you pay a little attention and ask every doubt you have. The professors are willing to help you with everything. They have no problem in giving you a hand if you need some aid. If you are lucky and choose classes you like you are going to have lots of fun learning and meeting very interesting people.
Travelling in Erasmus or in any other exchange program makes you part of a great community. You can live a great deal of new experiences far from your country. You don’t have to be scared, as an exchange student, you will get assistance from the staff from the university you are going to, they are always willing to help you with whatever problem you may have, they are very professional people, they even helped me with non-academic stuff (where to go and visit, where to get food and useful info about American costumes). Also I have to tell you that whether you have any doubts or questions don’t hesitate and ask me.
As for social life, I have met many Americans both in and outside classes. I’ve made a lot of friends among international students too… people from Korea, Japan, England, France, India, Australia, Argentina, Germany, South Africa, Turkey, New Zealand, Brazil, Mexico… Even though my dear lector, you have to know that what I can tell you here is no more than a brief glance of what you will experience as an exchange student. You have to live it. Among everyone I met there I don’t know anyone who felt sorry in the end for having been an exchange student. You are going to go through ups and downs, but the point is to grow with everything that happens and accept your experiences as adventures… That is the point of going abroad, and that is the point of life.

VIAJANDO AL EXTRANJERO
Mi querido lector y futuro estudiante de intercambio. En primer lugar tengo que decir que no cambiaría la experiencia que tuve en Estados Unidos por todo el oro en los ríos de California. Es muy importante ir a estudiar al extranjero, si lo haces vas a vivir en otro mundo diferente: la gente, la comida, la forma de decir las cosas, la manera de trabajar, los valores... todo es diferente. Si decides ser estudiante de intercambio experimentaras una forma muy singular de comportarse y de enfocar la vida... y para vivir esta gran experiencia tienes que saber que no hay mejor opción que viajar y estudiar.
Personalmente mi experiencia transcurrió en New Brunswick (EE.UU.). Esta se trata de una pequeña ciudad en la cual puedes encontrar de todo: tiendas, cafeterías, pubs, restaurantes, cines... vivía en una residencia en el campus, y tenía mis clases en diferentes partes de la ciudad... Lo mejor de todo era la proximidad a la ciudad de Nueva York, a la cual iba todos los fines de semana. Personalmente, a miíme encantan las grandes ciudades.
Otro aspecto a destacar acerca de las Universidades Americanas es que vayas donde vayas se puede respirar ese "Espíritu de Campus Americano". Puedo asegurar que es una experiencia inolvidable el pasear por los verdes jardines del campus, experimentar ese ambiente y dar las clases en esos hermosos edificios antiguos.
Puedo comprender que estés algo preocupado acerca de las clases que te esperan. En ese sentido tengo que decir que peses a que me encontraba en una de las 50 mejores universidades del mundo tengo que decir que las clases no eran difíciles, fueron muy prácticas y extremadamente útiles para mi futuro. No se trata de memorizar, se trata de comprender. No es difícil conseguir buenas notas si prestas un poco de atención y preguntas todas las dudas que tengas. Los profesores están dispuestos a ayudarte en todo. Ellos no tienen ningún problema en echarte una mano cuando necesitas ayuda. Si tienes suerte y eliges las clases que te gustan vas a pasártelo muy bien aprendiendo y conociendo gente muy interesante.
Viajar en el programa Erasmus o en cualquier programa de intercambio te hace parte de una gran comunidad, viviendo inolvidables experiencias y aventuras lejos de tu país. No tienes que tener miedo, como estudiante de intercambio, tendrás muchísima ayuda del personal de la universidad a la que vayas, ellos siempre están dispuestos a ayudarte con cualquier problema que pueda tener, son gente muy profesional, que incluso me ayudó con asuntos no académicos (que tendría que ir a visitar, dónde conseguir alimentos e información útil acerca de mis constantes viajes a Nueva York). A su vez, si necesitas orientación al llegar aquí o consejo antes de irte no dudes en contactar conmigo.
En cuanto a la vida social, he conocido a muchísimos estadounidenses, tanto dentro como fuera de las clases y he hecho muchos amigos entre los estudiantes internacionales... conociendo gente de Corea, Japón, Inglaterra, Francia, India, Australia, Argentina, Alemania, Sudáfrica, Turquía, Nueva Zelanda, Brasil, México ... Pese a todo lo que te he comentado mi querido lector, tienes que saber que lo que yo te puedo decir aquí no es más que un breve vistazo de lo que será la experiencia como estudiante de intercambio. Definitivamente es algo que tienes que vivir. Entre toda la gente que conocí allí no conozco a nadie que se sintiera mal o se arrepintiera de haber sido un estudiante de intercambio. Seguro que pasaras por altibajos, pero lo más importante es crecer con todo aquello que te sucede y aceptar esas experiencias y aventuras como una lección práctica para tu vida… como dicen los americanos “That is the point of going abroad, and that is the point of life”.
